For my reference and yours too!

These are the keycodes for the remote that will translate into Flash... apparently! Or at least that is what they say! Will let you know how I get on!

The Opera browser on Wii

With a little bit of downtime from work, I thought I'd have a look at what the Wii has to offer other than Wii Sports which has nearly put my back out!

So I performed an update on my Wii, after about 5 attempts of trying to log on to my wireless network... Once I'd done that the first change I noticed was the forecast channel was available... this has a pretty smart interface and is fun spinning the earth by clicking and dragging in mid-ai with my Wii remote. But thats not what this post is about... instead it is about the Opera browser.

From what I had read on the internet from various other blogs I thought that the browser would just appear... instead you have to go through the shopping channel... it looks as though it is going to cost you 1000 Wii points, but it doesn't once you click on it, it actually says it costs 0, which is good, plus the software is just on trial.

Once installed you end up with this page, whereby you can choose to enter a URL...

I chose my own site www.engagestudio.com and as expected was displayed ok... Opera allows you to zoom in a level... so sites that are over 600 pixels seem to display okay once zoomed in, but what I really wanted to look at though were sites I often use... one of them is www.newstoday.com and this is how it displayed...

pretty much all usualable except the flash header didn't display the first time, and the flash buttons refresh etc... didn't work on the first time of trying so I refreshed... and the header came in okay with the buttons from the second column working...

the buttons in columns 3 and 4 didn't work, but this is a trial version after all....

The site like others designed for PC/MAC is most usable when zoomed in upon...

Meanwhile I'm going to be testing out some Flash stuff as it supports up to Flash 7... and hope to get a New Years Day card up in time for... er... 1st january :)

I'm looking to see what effect a 100% width and height page effect has, so I can really push the idea of resolution independent stuff... it really is quite exciting to use the new remote as an input device... I'll be taking a few queues from the forecast channel as that really is quite intuitive. More soon!
